Description:
One of my favorites. I am offering it for sale now; I’m no longer keeping it to myself. On the one hand, the painting carries my familiar theme: human presence — people, crowds. On the other, it represents a more distinctive and abstract piece within another of my passions: depictions of exterior space (veduta / landscape). Thirdly, it is an imprint of my devotion to the color blue. Against a background reduced almost to abstract patches of color, the figures appear as a counterpoint within the composition. Their movement, clothing, and bodily character have always been an inexhaustible source of visual pleasure for me. In this painting, the style is at once graphic — through the retained delicate contours — and painterly in a way that allows the texture of the canvas to assert itself: watercolor-like, translucent, and rendered with subtle, restrained colors. Within my body of work, this painting can be placed both in the “travel” and the “people” category.
